Staff Experience Survey 2024 – Positive Staff Experience Supports Improved Care
The purpose of iMatter is to help individuals, teams, Directorates, HSCP’s and Health Boards understand and improve staff experience. The evidence is clear that a focus on positive staff experience is good for everyone, including those who use our services. This year’s Staff Experience Survey (iMatter) will start soon. Please look out for your survey on the dates for your area and speak to your manager if you don’t receive one.
You can find more resources on the iMatter page on FirstPort which can be accessed when you’re on-site or connected to the NHSL intranet from home.

About iMatter
Learning and Organisational Development (L&OD) manages iMatter the Staff Experience continuous improvement tool, developed nationally, and used within all NHS Scotland Boards to measure how staff experience the world of work.
iMatter is designed to help individuals, teams, Directorates, Health and Social Care Partnerships (HSCPs) and Boards, understand and improve staff experience. This is a term used to describe the extent to which employees feel motivated, supported and cared for at work. It is reflected in levels of engagement, motivation and productivity.
The process is based on a staff engagement questionnaire which all staff are asked to respond to, which generates a Team Report. The team meet to discuss the report and work together to agree the team strength along with up to 3 improvement actions for the coming year. The process is then completed annually.
Local leads are available in each Directorate & HSCP to be the first point of contact for staff and managers looking for support with the process and their journey – a list of who they are is available in this section.
An iMatter email helpdesk is also available for additional support iMatter@lanarkshire.scot.nhs.uk
iMatter supports NHS Lanarkshire’s ongoing commitment to developing a ꞌhealthy organisational cultureꞌ and helps to promote openness and transparency about experiences at work.

iMatter Champions
The local champions are the first point of contact for managers when the cycle starts to support them with any problems they may have accessing their account or confirming their teams. They have access to be able to see all the teams in their Directorate.
These local champions are able to:
- Monitor who has still to confirm their team members’ details
- Amend details once the questionnaire is out if managers have forgotten to add or remove people, or have entered the wrong details
- Send another link to the questionnaire if people have not received it
- Monitor the response rates for each team
- Check if action plans have been recorded on the system and highlight progress on this to seniors to encourage and support all teams to agree their plan within timescales
You can visit the iMatter page on FirstPort to find the list of iMatter Champions, or download it directly from this link.
